KWT Rimpahan Palorian Simarantihan Receives Decree From Suo-suo Village Head To Support Community Food Security

On July 7, 2023, KKI Warsi held a discussion in Simarantihan Hamlet regarding the basic rights of indigenous peoples. In the discussion, the Talang Mamak Indigenous Community expressed that they needed agricultural support because forest products were uncertain, affecting their economy in meeting their daily needs.

From the discussion, KKI Warsi said that in order to get support from the community, they must agree or form a group as a forum that can be accommodated by the parties to support the economy in the agricultural sector. From this direction, the community in Simarantihan Hamlet agreed to hold a discussion regarding the formation of a farmer group. In the discussion, the Talang Mamak Indigenous Community wanted to form a women's group first because women have time to farm in the fields and gather.

In the discussion, they also agreed to create a Women Farmers Group called Rimpahan Polirien Simarantihan which focuses on agriculture with the hope of being able to answer kitchen problems for Talang Mamak Indigenous Women. From the results of the discussion, it was also agreed upon the chairman, treasurer, and secretary of the group.

KKI Warsi represented by Ari as a community facilitator conveyed to the Suo-suo Village government the results of the discussion regarding the formation of KWT for Talang Mamak Indigenous Women. The village government welcomed the initiative because it was in line with the village government's program in food security efforts for village communities, and so far the Talang Mamak Indigenous Community has not received any support at all.

To accelerate this support, the village government asked the village apparatus to immediately make a decree on the formation of the Rimpahan Polirein Simarantihan KWT and finally the decree was signed on September 18, 2023 which ratified the formation of the Rimpahan Polirien Simarantihan KWT for Simarantihan Hamlet and this became the first decree in the formation of the Farmer Group in Simarantihan Hamlet.

"Hopefully this is not just a decree that has been ratified but in the future if KWT is included in the Village Government SIMLUHTAN, it will be supported by a food security budget," said the Village Head.

Rimpahan Women Farmers Group Polirien Simarantihan said that this SK is the first in her village, and especially for Talang Mamak Indigenous Women. KKI Warsi, in addition to facilitating this process, also encourages this KWT to be registered at the SIMLUHTAN Food Security and Horticulture Service in Tebo Regency so that government support for this KWT becomes more real and fosters the spirit of indigenous peoples in encouraging food security in their own communities.
