Yayasan Betang Borneo Indonesia (YBBI) and SMA Negeri 1 Jabiren Raya officially signed a Cooperation Agreement to encourage the implementation of inclusive schools. The event, which took place in the principal's office, emphasized SMAN 1 Jabiren Raya's commitment to becoming a friendly educational institution for children, including minority groups and people with disabilities.
Sevana Dewi, YBBI Program Manager, explained that this collaboration is a continuation of the previously established relationship. In 2024, YBBI has acted as a guest teacher in P5 subjects through the independent curriculum. This signing is expected to strengthen the commitment of both parties in creating an inclusive educational environment.
Inclusive schools aim to provide equal education for all students, both those with special needs and those without. In this collaboration, several important initiatives will be implemented, including: collecting disaggregated data on student numbers, education on customs and culture, establishing an inclusive deliberation forum, and developing regulations related to protecting vulnerable groups from violence.
The “Sakula Himba” program is one of YBBI’s main focuses. This program is designed to strengthen students’ character and cultural identity, as well as promote gender equality, disability inclusion, and social inclusion (GEDSI). Sakula Himba has an implementation guide that has been prepared in a participatory manner with students and accompanying teachers, covering 8 series of problem-based and project-based learning.
Wulan Anindya Wardhani, a mentor teacher, emphasized the importance of this program amidst the increasing cases of early marriage and juvenile delinquency.
"We hope that this program can provide a positive space for students to express themselves, increase their motivation to continue their education, and strengthen their character and cultural identity," he said.
With this collaboration, it is hoped that SMA Negeri 1 Jabiren Raya can become an example in implementing inclusive schools, which not only provide equal opportunities to all students, but also encourage diversity and a deeper understanding of culture in the educational environment.
