Although socio-economic institutions in Kaluppini Village have long existed, they still operate independently without truly integrated coordination. There's no meeting place for all parties to share roles or develop a shared vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This picture emerged from regular conversations between Muslimin, the Estungkara program field facilitator, and various community members\u2014from village heads and women cadres to the administrators of the Merah Putih Cooperative. Through a personal and dialogical approach, the Estungkara SCF team attempted to address issues at the grassroots level. From there, initiatives emerged to encourage village institutions to become collaborative platforms focused on empowering and strengthening the role of indigenous women, one of which was the Inclusive Socio-Economic Institution Strengthening Training Series on January 22, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That morning, at 10:00 a.m., 12 men and 10 women from the Kaluppini indigenous community gathered. The Estungkara \u2013 Sulawesi Cipta Forum team was present not merely to bring a program, but to try to open a space that had previously felt blocked: a space for collaborative learning, equal dialogue, and most importantly, rebuilding mutual trust among the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Muslimin, as a field facilitator, attempts to unravel the obstacles that often arise in village development. He reminds us that social change in indigenous communities like Kaluppini cannot emerge from fragmented movements. Village resilience depends heavily on the extent to which local institutions can connect and play their roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting the position of women in the village social structure, Muslimin emphasized: "Strengthening the village economy is not enough just to have businesses running. What's more important is how village institutions can connect and work collectively. In the Estungkara Program, strengthening the capacity of indigenous women will be the main focus of our support for the next three years."<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The village head of Kaluppini, Muhammad Salata, also expressed his hope that the village would become socially and economically independent, with indigenous women as one of its driving forces. "Our hope is that Kaluppini Village can become socially and economically independent. MSME institutions in the village must strengthen each other and even collaborate across villages. The independence of indigenous communities, especially through women's empowerment, is a shared goal that we want to achieve," he said. This statement signals that this effort is not being carried out alone, but rather has the support of the village government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asmayanti, a young mother from the Kaluppini indigenous community, enthusiastically shared her experiences. For her, practical knowledge like this provides a bridge to overcoming the failures she previously experienced at home. "As a young mother, I appreciate practical training like this. For example, cultivating kale using used bottles is easy to implement at home. I've tried growing it before, but often failed because I didn't understand how to manage the nutrients. With this mentoring, I'm confident I can be more successful because I already have the knowledge; it just requires consistent application," she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mrs. Madia, a member of the Kaluppini Village Family Welfare Movement (PKK), expressed a similar sentiment. She sees this training as more than just a transfer of knowledge, but also a catalyst for greater collaboration. She recognizes that the potential of Kaluppini women already exists, but they still need a connecting link to ensure they don't go it alone. "We are grateful to the speakers and SCF. Kaluppini women have already done a lot, but we still need support\u2014especially in marketing to maintain consistency. I agree with the formation of a women-only hydroponic group. By working together, we can help each other prepare equipment and sell our harvest. This isn't just about family finances, but also about food independence in the village. Especially now that there's the Dapur MBG program, which desperately needs a supply of healthy, fresh vegetables," she expressed optimistically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, Ahsan, Estungkara's program manager, encouraged participants to view change as a collaborative process that needs to be planned from the outset. "The beginning of the year is a moment to build a shared vision and mindset. The resilience and independence of indigenous communities can only be achieved if all parties\u2014young women, parents, youth, traditional leaders, and village institutions\u2014collaborate. It's also important to consider work mechanisms and commodity selection that provide meaningful participation for women," he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hasdiana Sawati (Bu Nanna), owner of Batili Hydroponics, encouraged participants to identify business opportunities based on market demand, particularly those stemming from the MBG program. "Businesses must be viewed from the perspective of market opportunities and certainty. Indigenous women have a crucial role to play, provided they are supported by knowledge and a fair division of roles within the family. There's a large new market close to us. Based on agriculture and plantations, we can actually seize this opportunity," she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mrs. Nanna also shared how her family divides roles in managing the hydroponic business. Her husband focuses on the work that requires physical strength and technical skills, such as building the frame and installation. Meanwhile, Mrs. Nanna is the "brain of production": seed research, sowing, maintenance, and ensuring harvest quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This division of roles doesn't just happen, but rather through a process of dialogue. They understand each other's strengths and limitations. In this way, the business doesn't become an additional burden for women, but rather a mutually reinforcing collective effort. When work is discussed together, women have room to grow without having to bear a double burden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the reflection session, the activity continued with a lettuce sowing workshop led by Mrs. Nanna. As seeds, sponges, and simple gutters were distributed, the atmosphere became more lively. These simple tools became a medium for collaborative learning and the exchange of insights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This practice provides a space for capacity building, where participants can directly experience more efficient and environmentally friendly cultivation methods. This demonstrates that family businesses can actually start with small, realistic steps that can be implemented at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the seeding session, the discussion reopened. Mrs. Jumiati shared her story about her banana chip business. For indigenous women like her, business isn't just about profit and loss, but also about keeping the kitchen burning. Until now, she had relied solely on personal networks\u2014word of mouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

"I've started, but I can't do it consistently because the market is limited. The challenges are packaging and marketing," he said honestly. While this method keeps his business alive, it's difficult to grow. What he needs isn't just capital, but market access and certainty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, Muhammad Rahmat emphasized the importance of village institutions. "Farmers cannot be left to fend for themselves. This is where village cooperatives and other socio-economic institutions must come in, guaranteeing markets and safeguarding production quality," he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This commitment was reinforced by Pratiwi, a Field Agricultural Extension Officer in Kaluppini Village. She believes that mentoring must be consistent to ensure the project continues. "Mentoring must continue to ensure this business truly grows. I'm ready to become more involved in empowering women's groups here," she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Concluding the discussion, Ms. Nanna offered to be a mentor. She understands that technical knowledge is easily lost if only given once. "With just one day of training, that knowledge is quickly lost. I'm ready to guide you slowly so you truly understand and gain confidence," she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting in Kaluppini provided a crucial opportunity to reconcile the various roles that had previously operated separately. From the division of roles within the household to market guarantees by village institutions, everything points towards building a more solid economic foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Success no longer rests on individuals, but on how strongly spaces for dialogue and collaborative work can be maintained. The capacity building of indigenous women, a focus of the Estungkara Program, is beginning to take concrete form\u2014through collaboration between community knowledge, technical support from extension workers, and the role of cooperatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
