The Estungkara Project from KEMITRAAN Indonesia, formed the Bukit Pangkalaeng Farming Women's Group (KWT) as a form of traditional women's unity in Tanete Bulu Hamlet. Every day they process non-timber forest products, namely sap, to become a source of life for their families. From the results of tapping the sap water, they produce it into ant sugar for sale.
However, from October to December, a long drought occurred, reducing the production of sap as the main ingredient for ant sugar. Within these limitations, they showed flexibility by switching to tapping sap from pine trees with their husbands.
In the midst of the challenges, an idea emerged from KWT Bukit Pangkaleng to hold a social gathering. 30 Tanete Bulu traditional women agreed to set aside 20,000 rupiah for each member as initial capital for the social gathering. This activity is not only a routine meeting, but also a forum for building togetherness.
Hj. Inna, one of the Tanete Bulu traditional women, said that this social gathering provides many benefits. "This social gathering activity is good, it helps us to have time to gather and discuss family needs," explained Hj. Inna. This statement reflects the essence of their social gathering, not only as an economic activity, but also as a form of social and emotional support.
The chairman of KWT Bukit Pangkalaeng, Ayu Andira, also added that this social gathering activity was an important moment for them. In this forum, not only financial matters are discussed, but also daily fate, family needs and shared dreams. "Arisan complements their lives, unites hearts and minds," said Ayu.
More than just a monthly meeting, the Arisan which was started by the Bukit Pangkalaeng Farmer Women's Group, Tanete Bulu Hamlet, has become a Dialogue Forum that shapes their future as an indigenous community. With Arisan as the stage, Tanete Bulu indigenous women have space to organize their steps towards a better future. This simple initiative is an important milestone in building solidarity and sustainability amidst the challenges faced by indigenous women.
