Jaini, Pearl of the Anak Dalam Tribe

Jaini, a young man from the Anak Dalam tribe, was born in Sarko on October 5, twenty-eight years ago. Now he has two daughters named Liona, five years old and Naomi, two years old. His wife was a simple woman and was the daughter of Temenggung – the head of the Anak Dalam tribe – named Yahana. Jaini's daily life involves farming in his half hectare oil palm plantation and sometimes hunting animals in the forest. However, because the forest is now starting to run out, Jaini is having difficulty getting what he hunts. Not to mention that the yields from oil palm plantations are not much, plus the condition of the plantations is not well maintained.

However, these conditions did not dampen Jaini's intention to play an active role in his community. Evidently, he is one of the cadres of the Children's Tribe in Pematang Jumat who is starting to open up to accepting outsiders and interacting with the surrounding community. He also joined a traditional pencak silat organization called Persaudaraan Setia Hati Terate (PSHT) in 2020. He believes that martial arts knowledge is very important to learn because it can train oneself to be strong in facing any difficult situation. He also realized that in social life he should interact with many people. This became the basis for Jaini's decision to seriously undergo training and coaching in PSHT pencak silat.

Every week, there are three meetings for Jaini to practice and they start at eight in the evening. In the training process, Jaini faced many challenges, one of which was the distance she had to cover. The distance between Jaini's residence and the pencak silat training place is very far, namely nine kilometers. On a rocky road, the street lighting is not optimal. Not only that, with the current economic conditions not being good, Jaini still sets aside money to buy fuel for the vehicle he uses so he can continue to go to training.

It doesn't stop there, in the training process at PSHT pencak silat, Jaini has to pass every level of degree and exam. Starting with the plain belt, then the Jambon belt, then the green belt, moving up to the next level, the white belt and finally, the Mori title. The level of training duration varies for each title. For plain belts and Jambon belts, you have to train for three hours. Then, for green and white belts you have to train for a duration of around 4-6 hours. With this rigorous training process, Jaini did not give up and resign. For him, this is a life journey and a process of self-development. He felt happy doing the training.

Now Jaini has the title of citizen – meaning he has graduated to the level of permanent member in the PSHT organization. Jaini has been training for more than 3 years. The family noticed many simple changes in Jaini's figure. He became calmer, more mature, and became an important actor in the struggle at the community level. Especially in the eyes of his wife, Jaini is a responsible father figure and beloved family leader.

Jaini doesn't have much hope. He wants to invite his younger siblings from the Anak Dalam tribal community to join the PSHT pencak silat organization. Learn self-defense while blending into society so that you can become a cadre of local children who have an attitude and help the community become even better.
