GEDSI training for Regional Government and Village Government

YCMM held GEDSI training activities for regional and village government officials which aimed to strengthen the perspective and implementation of GEDSI in government administration and development in Mentawai. Present at this training was the Secretary of Bappeda, Plt. Head of the Dukcapil Service, Head of General Subdivision of the PUPR Service, Institutional Analysis Staff of the PMDP2KB Service, Head of Subdivision and Staff of the Housing and Settlement Areas Service, staff of the Health Service, and staff of the Mentawai P3A Social Service.

The village government apparatus was attended by the Village Head, Village Secretary, Village Staff, as well as the Chair, secretary and BPD members including women representatives from the three program assisted villages (Malancan, Muntei and Nemnem Leleu). The activity took place over two days on 21 and 22 February 2023, presenting the Board of Trustees and the Director of YCMM as resource persons.

The training materials have the theme of strengthening the GEDSI perspective for inclusive governance, which is delivered using lecture, question and answer, discussion and simulation methods. The participants seemed enthusiastic about taking part in activities that broadened their insight and understanding regarding the importance of the GEDSI perspective in planning and implementing development.

This training activity resulted in several recommendations and follow-up plans by the regional government and village government to encourage and facilitate the participation of marginalized groups (women, children and people with disabilities) in development planning forums, one of which is through the Musrenbang specifically for women.
