PPSW Jakarta Holds Gender Analysis Training

The Jakarta Women's Resource Development Center (PPSW) held gender analysis training in the Chinese Benteng women's community. This event was held on September 15 2023 at the residence of Mr RW Cuan Hoy, Belimbing village, Kosambi sub-district, Tangerang district, Banten. This training activity was attended by twenty women from the Lantern Merah Abadi Women's Resource Development Cooperative (KWPS).

The aim of this gender analysis training is for participants to be able to formulate their hopes and concerns related to implementation. Later, participants can anticipate perceived obstacles and effective ways to achieve expectations.

Iqbal, training facilitator, provided the concept of Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) to participants through interactive activities. Examples provide metaplan with different colors with the aim that participants can write down the differences in the biological characteristics of men and women. Then, the nature, roles and positions of gender, factors that hinder the realization of gender equality and forms of gender inequality.

From this activity, participants can understand that marginalization, stereotype, subordination, and double burdens are factors that hinder women from developing and learning. Not only that, the existence of power relations is complex and absurd and the biggest obstacle in realizing an inclusive society.

PPSW Jakarta itself hopes that this gender analysis training can provide basic understanding to cadres and members of KWPS Lampion Merah Abadi. So that we can carry out social transformation to create a more just life and social order. By implementing gender roles, we can help create individuals who are more productive, independent and empowered.

Dewi, one of the administrators of KWPS Lampion Merah Abadi, said that the gender analysis training was very interesting, because women and housewives groups were aware of their roles and responsibilities in the cooperative. “It is very difficult for women in Belimbing village to be encouraged to move forward. "It seems that training like this must be followed and must even be increased so that awareness among mothers can slowly be built," he concluded.
